What’s
Eating My Forest was created to assist forest landowners with diagnosing
and understanding Inland Northwest forest Insects and Disease agents.
Initial effort and vision was the development of a digital visual
key that allows the user to see pictures of various forest insects
and diseases and guiding them towards the proper category explaining
more about the agents and leading to eventual management options.
Please
navigate the program and use it to learn more about the fascinating
forest change agents as these work on our landscape.
If you encounter a word or phrase with a light blue-violet color,
(example)
this is linked to a glossary definition. By dragging
your cursor over the word and clicking your mouse you will read the
definition of this term.
This
program is designed to have the user navigate a series of pictorial
paths that "hopefully" will lead to identification of the proper
disease or insect agent and more importantly towards understanding
its workings in the ecosystem. If you have difficulties in arriving
at the proper diagnosis, use the various choices in menu buttons
and try other options. Remember one sick tree does not mean you
have an unhealthy forest. Also, keep in mind to manage your forest
as a whole, looking past the sick tree to the entire site.
We
hope What’s Eating My Forest will provide you with the proper information
to help manage your property.
