I
WANT TO BE A VETERINARIAN
* working with domestic animals
* working in a zoo
* working in wildlife health
Do I need a degree first?
To become a veterinarian, most schools
prefer that you have a degree before continuing on to Vet School.
Which degree do I get and where do I get it?
Why not start with a degree in Wildlife Resources? We have a pre-vet option in our Natural Resource Sciences degree that will prepare you for Vet School. Several of our students have gone on to the WSU Vet College as well as other Vet Colleges.
Doris Sievers is one example:
“The Pre-Veterinary bachelors degree program in Wildlife Biology provides a complete background in the basic sciences and an excellent introduction to anatomy, physiology, and especially nutrition. Elective courses in ornithology, mammalogy, toxicology, marine mammalogy, ecology and conservation, and reptiles, amphibians, and fisheries also provide a strong foundation for those interested in the care of exotics, wildlife, and non-traditional species. In addition to an excellent pre-veterinary education, students come away with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world around them.”
Doris A. Sievers
B.S. in Wildlife Biology, 1996
College of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 2000
So if you are looking for an education in veterinary medicine start your program with a major in Wildlife Ecology in the Department of Natural Resource Sciences.
